2006 The Witches of Eastwick

This was a wonderful experience.  The production was as good as they come and with a back stage crew who did in hours what the pro production took weeks to do!  The effects involved may mean this show may not go on general release but if it rested on the result of this production then the owners of the show and the rights owners (who were present the night I attended) would have to say, “Yes, it can be done!”  But what a cast!  Some of the best talent on the island was on show and this standard is mirrored by the other operatic societies on this Island of Talent.

The music, although not memorable, a weakness with many modern shows, was performed and played with such panache.

The Devil himself, played superbly well by Simon Fletcher and his three ladies who put their many talents to seduce the audience just as much as Darryl Van Horne seduces them.

Jane Corkill, Trish Fargher and Rebecca Okell – all three were delicious and each in a different way.

Supporting them were Sonia Callin whose Felicia is a tour-de-force, aided and abetted by Alex Toohey, who plays her henpecked husband.  The sweet young things, Amelia O’Shea and Alex Beck both do justice to their roles.  All were backed by a great chorus resulting in a theatrical experience I am so pleased I did not miss.

I should like to congratulate one other member of the cast and that is young Keira Woodward who played Claire.  What a beautiful voice this charming young lady has.  No doubt I shall see her again.

This, like last year’s show, was out of the top drawer and another show of which the society can be justly proud.  Thank you to you all.”
